The creation of the Finnish Scientific Diving Academy has been announced.
The organization aims to offer training to professional scientists and students at a world-class, cold-water diving facility. The academy will be located at the Tvärminne Zoological Station in Hanko.
Leading the institution is acclaimed Australian scientific diver Ed Stockdale. He brings a wealth of experience to the Academy in multiple fields, including marine biology, scientific diving, and technical diving. He also brings experience from multiple industries to the role.
The academy’s location at the University of Helsinki Tvärminne Zoological Station will build on the existing local experience of scientific diving. The location is the site of most of the scientific diving conducted in Finland. The academy has an initial three-year funding cycle provided by the Antero and Merja Parma Foundation and Weisell Foundation.
The first training courses are scheduled for April 2022.
