Emma Farrell teaches for new series "River Cottage"

AIDA Instructor Trainer Emma Farrell is kicking off a new UK Television series of River Cottage by teaching the celebrated TV chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall how to freedive.

The series is to be broadcasted in the UK on Thursday 12th November at 20h00, featuring many moments of Emma and Huge freediving for scallops.  To prepare Hugh for this adventure, the pair of apneists spent a day at Vobster Quay learning freediving theory as well as static and constant weight practice.  The reknowned chef who is already a scuba diver admitted that it was “harder than it looks”.  To complete the training and start filming Emma and Hugh were joined by Deeperblue contributors Paul “Podge” Rogers and Bryn Spencer.

Emma said in an interview that “Hugh was a great pupil who was already quite comfortable in the water, and that it was new for him to search the bottom without tanks and how surprisingly tired he was afterwards.”  Needless to say, he still had to cook them dinner.

Emma Farrell has appeared on a few TV series before, including Chicken Run with Steve Jones for Channel 4 and The Indestructibles with Johnathan Goodwin for the BBC.  She is also the author of the book One Breath, a Reflection on Freediving.

River Cottage will be broadcast in the UK on Thursday 12th November at 20h00 on Channel 4.  It can also be viewed online at this time at www.channel4.com/rivercottage.
