The 2019 AIDA Depth World Freediving Championships have kicked off today, with divers from around the world converging in the waters off Villefranche-Sur-Mer, France, the site of the first World Championships 23 years ago as well as in 2000, 2005 and 2012.

The competition sees athletes from 47 different countries compete in three depth disciplines – Constant Weight (CWT), Constant Weight No-Fins (CNF) and Free Immersion (FIM) – over the course the next week.
